Samish Flower Farm Work Party & Bird Walk
February 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
In the early 1900’s, the 38-acre property now known as the Samish Flower Farm, was the first place that tulips were grown for production in Skagit County. Now, mature fir and cedar trees hosting eagles and herons have replaced the tulips. This large forested property, which borders Roney and Samish Island Roads and Padilla Bay, contains some of the Island’s oldest trees. Some trees are over 130 years old. Generations of Islanders and visitors have traveled through the stunning green canopy and felt a sense of place and history. It is the beloved “front door” of the Island, welcoming all with its beautiful natural character.
This is our first work party at this property! Join us in some stewardship work to ensure that this area continues to be healthy habitat for wildlife. SLT will provide tools and training, please dress for the weather! Any questions, contact us at volunteer@skagitlandtrust.org.
After the work party, stay for a bird walk with local birding expert Libby Mills. Join Libby for a walk along the Samish flats, looking at raptors, wintering waterfowl and shorebirds.
Stewardship work: 10:00 am- 12:45
