SUMMARY:Junior Duck Stamp Bird Observation & Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Junior Duck Stamp program workshop\, led by Seattle Audubon\, invites young artists to learn about waterfowl and their habitats\, observe waterfowl on Padilla Bay\, and practice some techniques for drawing a duck or swan. Youth artists in grades K-12 will learn how to enter the state-wide art contest. \nWhat to expect and bring: \n\nCome prepared to be outside in variable weather observing birds on the water at Padilla Bay.\nStudents should bring a sketch pad and pencil.\nSeattle Audubon will provide some additional art materials.\nA limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. Please bring your own if you have them. \nParents/guardians should plan to stay with their child during the workshop. \n\n\nAbout the Junior Duck Stamp program:\nThe annual Junior Duck Stamp contest combines science\, conservation\, and art in a series of engaging lessons and activities. After studying waterfowl anatomy and habitat\, students in grades K-12 express their newfound knowledge by drawing or painting a picture of an eligible North American waterfowl species. \nThe annual contest encourages students to observe wildlife and create their vision of the colorful\, winged waterfowl that grace wetlands across North America. The objective is to create an original depiction of waterfowl and submit it to the contest; the program is great as a class project or for individual students! Student artwork is judged in four groups according to grade level: K-3\, 4-6\, 7-9 and 10-12. Three first\, three second\, and three third place entries\, along with 16 honorable mentions\, are selected from each age group\, so there are lots of winners who will each receive certificates\, prizes\, and recognition. Contest judges select one “Best of Show” from the 12 first place winners. Each state or territory “Best of Show” is entered in the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest which occurs in April. \nLearn more about Washington State’s participation at seattleaudubon.org/sas/GetInvolved/JuniorDuckStamp.aspx \nJunior Duck Stamp Bird Observation & Art Workshop
